Family photoshoots can be so much fun and you and your kiddos will get pictures that you will always love, but sometimes picking out outfits can seem like a massive hurdle. After all, everyone is going to have their own style and opinions, and getting everyone to look good together can seem impossible.
A lot of times, we also see that this responsibility falls onto one person (usually mom) but figuring out what everyone is going to wear can be a lot of work. And, let’s be honest, you have so many other things to worry about that picking out outfits shouldn’t be taking up all of your time.
But, don’t worry. I have the perfect solution for you, especially those busy parents out there who just don’t have time to spend hours upon hours looking for outfits – Style & Select. When it comes to family photoshoot outfit ideas, this is a game changer and can help you pick out outfits in no time at all.
So, if this sounds like exactly what you need when it comes to family photoshoot outfit ideas, let’s take a look at all that you get with Style & Select and how it works!
How Style & Select Works
Style & Select is an interactive styling service that is completely online and can help to take the guesswork out of picking out coordinating outfits for your family that photograph beautifully. Access to this service is included in all of my sessions and can be a game changer for busy parents.
So, how does Style & Select actually work? Well, it is simple. First, you’ll head over to their site and answer a few short questions. This includes things like the color tone (light airy, muted, bold rich) that you are going for with the session, how many people you will be styling, and some basic information like their sizes and if they like to dress more masculine or feminine.
Finally, you’ll pick two color combinations that you feel match the vision that you have for the session. Once you have those selected, all you have to do is hit view results and you’ll have tons of styles and options that you can choose from for each and every person you need to style.
Instead of combing through your own closet or looking online at 20 different stores to find the perfect look, you’ll have a list of different pieces of clothing that can work for each one of your family members.
Once you have the specific style options, there are two different things that you can do. One option you have is to use the photos as inspiration to find things in your own closet that match the vibe for you and your kiddos.
This is perfect for families that want to look great and coordinate but don’t want to go out and buy all new clothes for the session. You’d be surprised at what you can find from what you already have once you have a bit of direction.
The other option you have is to shop the actual styles that are listed out for each person. Under the individual items of clothes, you’ll see a shopping cart button that will bring you right to the online store for that piece where you can purchase it.
This cuts down all of the time searching through online store after online store just to find one single item – which we all know can feel impossible sometimes.
Additional Benefits
Favorite and Save All Your Styles
This all sounds great right, but what else is there that can help you? Well, once you have found the perfect options for you and your little ones, you can actually favorite them to create a style board for each member of your family.
Not only does this make it easy to see all of the options for each of your family members at once, but you’ll also be able to save any of your top picks and come back to them later to select your final outfits.
Find Coordinating Outfits without Having to Match
One of the biggest bonuses when it comes to this service is that you don’t have to feel like you have to wear the same exact thing to match. Believe me, I get it. When you have a million other things going on in your life, it can be easy to just say “We are all just going to match” and call it a day.
However, each one of your family members has their own unique style and personality and that should be shown in your family photos. Using Style & Select, you’ll be able to find outfits that coordinate flawlessly whether it is just you and your partner or if you’re trying to wrangle 4 kids into the same photo.
It’s also important to differentiate between matching and coordinating. When it comes to matching, you tend to rely only on 1 or 2 colors whereas when you’re thinking about coordinating, you are going to add in several different colors.
This is going to tie in more variety and depth to your outfits. What this does is that instead of your eyes being drawn directly to the matchy-ness of the outfits, it is drawn to the beauty of your family first and then your outfits second.
Buy the Outfits Right on the Spot
This is definitely one of my favorite things about this service and it makes it so easy for you busy parents out there to check this item off of your to-do list in no time at all. Once you have your final picks and know what you want everyone to wear, you can click the shop button right there and purchase all of the outfits.
You don’t even have to get off of your couch! I mean, what could be better than that? Now, we all know how online shopping goes – one minute the item is there and the next it is just gone. So, once you find the perfect outfit, don’t wait!
Style & Select is also updated daily so you may find new items listed for you if you do go back to be sure to check those out. They do also remove sold out items weekly, so hopefully you don’t run into the dreaded grey box when you go to buy your items, but the earlier you can buy them the better!
Upload Your Own Items
One other really cool thing that you can do is upload your own images to the style board. This is a great option if you are going to be using the boards as inspiration to pick from your own closet or if you are going to mix and match with what you already have.
All you have to do is simply upload the image to the individual board and you’ll be able to select it and save it to your favorites. You can even do this with products that you have found online and can attach the link where you can purchase it so that everything is in one place when you go to click buy!
Send Your Selections to Your Photographer
Finally, once you have everything set and know what you and all of your kiddos are going to wear, you’ll be able to send your selected items to both yourself and your photographer. This will send an email with your style board to your own email and directly to me.
What I love about this is it allows me to help prepare even more for your session. If I know exactly what you are going to be wearing, I can make sure to find spots around your session location that will make you and your family pop, and I can give any other recommendations for the photoshoot.
Thinking About Color Palettes
As I mentioned earlier, when you are going through this process, you’ll be able to pick certain color tones that you think match what you are looking for in the session. And you may be thinking, that’s great but how do I actually know what is right for my session?
Well here is a breakdown of the different options and why they may be right for you (**hint, it has more to do with just the pictures themselves and also how those pictures are going to look in your home).
Light Airy
Light Airy is a really great choice and tends to photograph beautifully in both indoor and outdoor settings. With this, you are most likely going to wear more pastel colors that are a bit more subdued.
This means that they are going to coordinate really well with different home decor settings and outdoor spots as well, but you are still going to have some lovely contrast to the images so you and your family will still pop against the backgrounds.
Earthy Neutrals
This is another great color tone and is fabulously versatile in all of the seasons but they definitely are beautiful against the spring greens and flowers and the browns, oranges, and reds of fall.
These colors tend to be a bit simpler to coordinate among the different pieces of clothing and are going to be more muted and warmer tones. This does, however, means that they do blend in a bit more with backgrounds so you and your family may not pop quite as much as other options.
Rich Bold
If you are a family that loves more punchy, vibrant colors, Rich Bold is the perfect choice for you.
When we are looking at outdoor sessions, these colors really pop in locations ripe with fall colors.
For at-home sessions, they tend to stand out really well against homes with a warmer color palette.
Think About How You Are Going to Display the Pictures
Finally, you want to also think about where and how you are going to display the pictures as you are picking out your colors. Whether you are planning to use your prink credit on wall display artwork (my clients love Matted Frames) or display them another way, how the colors look against the rest of the room is also important.
For example, photos with your family in Light Airy outfits may not blend as well in a home with tons of bold, warm colors. With all the work you are putting into the session, you want to make sure the photos are going to look just as beautiful up on the wall as they do on your phone!
